What is the magic system in the Curse Breaker Series?
Answer: The magic is based on four elemental powers, such as the green earth magic Sarn uses to manipulate stone, alongside a separate belief-based white magic that allows him to break curses by unmaking lies. These powers are intrinsically tied to truth, making promises binding for mages, and follow a seven-year cycle where abilities wax and wane.
How does the magic system in the Curse Breaker Series work?
The series features a dual magic system. Green (earth) Magic is part of an elemental magic system and common among mages. White Magic is rare, belief-based, and used for breaking curses. Sarn is unique because he wields both, making him a target for the Seekers who wish to destroy all magic users.
Is the Curse Breaker Series appropriate for Young Adults?
The series deals with dark themes like indenture and the apocalypse, but it focuses on hope and family. It is best suited for older teens (16+) and adults due to fantasy violence and intense situations. There is no sexual content (clean fantasy) and little to no romance.
Who are the main characters?
- Sarn: The reluctant hero. An indentured mage with glowing green eyes who wields both earth magic and rare “Curse Breaking” white magic. He just wants to protect his son, but his power makes him a target.
- Ran: Sarn’s inquisitive young son. He has a strange ability to see things others cannot and is often the catalyst for the adventures.
- Miren: Sarn’s loyal brother and the anchor of the family. He fights with research and intellect rather than magic.
- Thing: A fan-favorite! A sarcastic, mind-reading OwlCat (part owl, part cat) who helps the family out of tight spots.
- Sovvan: Sarn’s fierce twin sister. Though she died as a child, she returns as a powerful spirit to protect her brother from beyond the veil.

The Curse Breaker books are an epic fantasy adventure series. It features the Reluctant Hero trope (Sarn just wants to be left alone), a strong Father-Son dynamic (Single Dad Fantasy), and Found Family themes. Do I need to read the Curse Breaker books in order?
Yes. Curse Breaker Enchanted (Book 1) is the essential starting point for the entire Curse Breaker Universe. Because the characters and magic system introduced here ripple out into my other series, everything starts with this book.
